concept / construction:
This piece is based on the prime numbers from 7 to 19. It is an almost purely conceptual/algorithmic piece.
7 notes and rests (ground note, minor 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, rest) at 7 lengths (i.e. 49 in total) are ordered by note first and length (long to short) second. The first on the list follows the last. Cycling through this list in 11, 13, 17, or 19 steps results in four different series (or melodies), which are all divided into 9 7/2 bars. There are 5 voices, (at least) one octave apart from each other.
The "prelude" of the piece combines all four series in the four higher voices: "11" highest and "19" lowest. Overlapping this "prelude", at bar 7 the lowest voice starts series "11". At the next prime number (11), the next series ("13") starts, and so forth, until the highest voice starts "11" again at bar 19. After that is finished, the four lower voices play all four series together again: "11" lowest and "19" highest.
